Nice site, lots of good information and pictures. The only thing it could use is a cameo/reference section like the MC Escher page on Wikipedia. This helped make that 15 minutes speech for Art History and little bit less of a burden. :D PS delete some of that spam, please.

i am so unworthy to be able to stare at maestro escher's masterpieces, yet equally upset at the same time, for it is only via the internet that i was able to give an unworthy eye over. i am truly a big fan. the very first time i laid my eyes on his work "drawing hands", during highschool, i was blown away, to this day. is there anyway that i could be a part of any club or group or foundation for the maestro? perhaps even grace the foundation with some of my works which are mostly influenced by him?

ik moet een werksuk maken over Escher en de vrag is : 20. Escher heeft verschillende varianten van “Metamorfose” gemaakt. De grootste hangt niet in een museum, maar in een postkantoor in Den Haag. Hoe lang is dit kunstwerk?

M.C. Escher has always been one of my favorite artists because he challenged people to see beyond the norm. To observe Escher artwork is to place yourself outside the box of normalcy, and enter into a world where there are no limits. We see that perhaps the norm is not normal afterall. Escher challenges us to examine what our eyes tell us. Escher was a genius in that he knew how to lead your eyes to what he wanted you to see. He wanted you to take that second look and examine the unexplainable. In the end, he wanted you to say WOW!

Volgens mij ligt Delft in Nederland. Héél jammer is de biografie, die te beknopt en in erbarmelijk Nederlands geschreven is. Dit vind ik een posthume belediging aan het adres van Escher. Ik hoop op andere sites een betere omschrijving te vinden.

I was wondering if the picture taken in the 'back in holland 1941-1954' gallery, if the picture "Eye 1946 Mezzotint, 7th and final stage" was taken or drawn. I think this picture is amazing and very interesting on how the skull was put in the center of the eye.. this reminds me of someone facing death..many different perspectives can be drawn from this and I believe that being able to see more than one perspective in a picture is what makes art, art.

The Escher effect: His work has influenced my on style for 40 years. The art of transforming a 2-d board/canvas into a 3-D illushion is harder than people could think. It is much like the quote, " Being an artist is easy because you have so many emotional factors to choose from for subject matter. Understanding how to be a better human is the hard part. Check out my work at www.artdept.com/au/aquilla03 I will always remember the influence his work has had on my life.....thanks M.C. Escher........your my mentor and live on... www.bdaquilla@yahoo.com

To Marcelo Bruno Rodriguez, Brasília, for your message from May 24, 2005 at 03:06:45 (CEST) Dear Marcelo Bruno Rodriguez! You defined correctly of creative work of Escher. I correctly noted its connection with mathematics. However, this is not simple connection! This is the allegory of mathematics; this is the hymn to it! Moreover, not simple of mathematics, but of the newest mathematics! And this proves by our studies.

The name of the great Dutch artist of Maurice Cornelius Escher (1898-1972) knows as the name of the outstanding master of the graphic idea of the relations between the space and the flat surfaces and between the three-dimensional structures. In the large series of its works, named "metamorphoses" (1937-1945), he reflected in flat surface the graphic structures, it would seem, which do not refer to the depths of natural science. Nevertheless, these mappings as in the magic mirror are inconceivable manner inexorable subordinated to strict formal definitions, reflecting the very essence of dynamics and kinetics of the natural transformations of cellular structures. Today it is possible to consider them a strict allegorical mapping of the essence of the relations of the dynamic and kinetic transformations of these structures. Unfortunately, artistic criticisms, yes even biomathematics, did not note in their time of this remarkable special feature of its creation (perhaps having only noted very fact of reflection in the metamorphoses of relations), but they could not this make. Mathematics of relations at that time yet not sufficiently developed. However today we can interpret this connection and use Escher’s metamorphoses as the only possibility of the illustrative explanation of the essence of most complex phenomenology of malignant increase, loss by the system of the living organism of homeostasis quality - tendency toward the retention of vital capacity. The possibility of this interpretation makes it possible to raise another important for us question: and it is cannot whether strictly of calculations and logical reasoning to obtain certain graphic mappings - metamorphosis as the reflections of natural technological processes on the physical elements of biological systems? Are not such processes the source of allegorical metamorphoses, their denotation? Moreover, if yes, then as treat the understood by the mind reserved from the observation essence of metamorphoses. What sense of the being contained in their mapping information? Is possible whether the utilization of metamorphosis as the source of visual information, its kind of "intro-vision" for practical purposes? And generally: how it is strict, and it is at the same time clearly, to depict dynamics, reserved mechanisms of the kinetics of the metamorphosis of biological substratum taking into account phenomenological special features as the process of switching the physiological technologies on the technology in the pathology? How to build and what form can have the metamorphosis of each concrete (personal) natural process, in which does find its place each cell from their general set? The solution of these problems, the search of the means of the visualization of laws governing the biological mechanisms, reserved from the observation by any technical equipment, but accessible for the mapping by the tool of mathematics, can give answers to the most burning practical needs. We investigated this problem and obtained the number of very interesting results. Several context-sensitive articles are devoted precisely to this.

Montreal, - Sunday, August 21, 2005 at 18:54:02 (CEST)

Great Dutch graphic artist M.C.Escher in its woodcut "Metamorphosis" (1937) reflected the fantastic metamorphosis of the fragment of real architectural ensemble into the figurine of single person. Studies showed that the dynamics of the conversion of each separate element and many their subsets, which compose the ensemble of fantastic metamorphosis as a whole, exactly reflects the statistical properties of the real metamorphosis of cellular substratum in the process of its malignancy. This reflection testifies about the specific correspondence of two architectures - construction and biological, reflects the dynamics of the process of malignancy in many relations of its elements and it formed the architectural body of the mathematical model of the process of transformation.

Hi, thanks for this websites a lot. I downloaded puzzle and videos of his three pictures..they are absolutly perfect (except the quality). I'm student of chemistry at the University, I saw his works at first time 6 years ago and till now I have never seen better works. Thank you for gallery, I bought a book about whole his life with many pictures, but somebody stole it and I'm glad, that I can see it atleast on internet.

Thank you for this website. I especially enjoyed the "at work" where I could see and hear Mr. Escher, even though he's been gone for many years now. I also enjoyed the virtual rides through his paintings via the downloads. I don't remember exactly when I saw Mr. Escher's work for the first time--probably in junior high or high school--but I fell in love with it immediately. I was glad for the gallery on this site, too, so that I could see the full range of his work. I love the playfulness I see in a lot of his work. He was a person I would have liked to have known. Thank you again for this wonderful site. A fitting testament to a great artist. Thank goodness his parents listened to him and let him follow his heart into graphic arts!

This man is a real genius. I really enjoy his work. Im a high school student doing art as one of my subjects and we are currently doing a whole unit on him. I really like manipulated art. - Those guys posting just below are really stupid. Shouldn't post those comments on a website about a very impressive artist as Escher. Guys keep your chatting to msn or a different forum. Great site! Robert

Have visited the museum in The Hague last week and want to say that it was a brilliant experience to discover the great variety of Escher's work. I particularly enjoyed seeeing for the first time his earlier work from the italian period. Well worth the journey! Thank you for such a well constructed web-site.

These pictures enter my mind through my eyes seeming simple. The fact is creating such simplicity would require a very deep and complex mind. This man was a genious!
